How You are Wasting Water

Find out How You are Wasting Water

Water is a blessing from God. There is an abundant amount of water covering our planet earth, but it’s not suitable for human use. Out of all this water only about 1% of it is freshwater that is suitable for drinking and domestic use. In proportion the major part is salt water or frozen into polar ice and glaciers. This is why all people must be careful and concerned about wasting water while performing everyday chores. It is essential to conserve freshwater and it can be done with adopting some changes in your everyday routine like taking shorter showers, replacing leaking faucets and pipes etc. According to USEPA, most households in the United States use an average of 300 gallons of water per day. This can be reduced significantly. By making a little changes to your routine you can make a huge difference in your water consumption and thus in your water bills. Let’s find out some possible means of how you are wasting water in your everyday life.

HOW YOU MAY BE WASTING WATER

Old leaking plumbing, faulty appliances and some careless habits are usually the main cause of water wastage. Like a faulty flush tank can continuously leak water in efforts to fill the tank wasting gallons of water per hour.

Flushing your Toilet Trash: Toilets consume the most water in every home. Did you know that every time you flush a facial tissue or a feminine product or any plastic wrapper you waste twice the amount of water compared to normal. In addition you are unknowingly damaging your plumbing drains and pipes. As such trash sometimes does not pass all the way through and is the reason of chocked pipes in many cases. Your plumbing system is not designed for such trash.

Long Baths & Showers: A standard bath tub holds approximately 80 gallons of water. On the other hand a standard shower head emits approx. 25 gallons of water every 10mins. Switching from a bath tub to a shower can save water significantly. Even more wastage can be saved if the shower is used efficiently.

Low-Flow Showerheads: Taking it a step further, you can save water even further if you switch to a low-flow showerhead, which uses about 2 gallons of water per minute.

Leaking Pipes: According to a research an average household can leak more than 10,000 gallons of water per year. This is a wastage that will only spread and cause more damage to your property. It is very important to keep an eye out for leaks around your toilet, faucets, hoses, and any other plumbing fixture. Do a timely repair or replace the faulty component. You will find a significant decrease in you water bills.

Inefficient Laundry: Filling your laundry machines with more water load and less garments is the inefficiency of laundry process. Always ensure that each load of laundry you do is full.

Running a Half-Full Dishwasher: Just like laundry always make sure your dishwasher is completely full before you run it.

Washing Dishes with Running Water: Many people have a bad habit of keeping the water running while washing their dishes. This wastes liters of water when you are applying the soap. Instead, apply soap and scrub first and only start the water running when you are ready to wash them off.

Running Water While Brushing Your Teeth: There is no need to keep the water running while you are brushing your teeth. We wish you to be grateful of all the blessings of nature and just remind yourself to turn the water off. If you sensibly think about it, there is no reason to keep the water running.
